My dear Sister,
As you can see from the postmark, I'm writing you this afternoon from one of my very favorite places, New York City, our home base of the last several months.
The air here is crisp and the golden colors inspire us as we walk the park, enchanted by that magical quality of sunlight one delights in this time of year. As you know surely better than anyone else, Sister, I am in my element in the fall! I do my best to coax Charles away from the studio daily to spend as much time out of doors as we possibly can.
Last month I believe we may have picnicked at every roadside stand and apple orchard the Hudson Valley has to offer! Our routine became a late-morning drive, followed by lunch of glorious cheeses, bread and apples, along with a nip of something to ward off the chill. Charles sketched as I dozed on the softest of Mother's plaid woolen blankets before we headed back to the cottage. (So glad we persisted in saving such family treasures, and a lesson for generations to come, I do hope.)
With October now in the past, we're looking forward to holiday events here in the city. Thanksgiving is fast approaching and you can be certain I'll be wishing you were by my side as we attend the Macy's parade. My, but the floats get bigger and ever so much more elaborate every year! Sister, I miss your company dearly and I anticipate with excitement our time together at Christmas.
Until then, with affection,
