July 1, 1949
Today we have arrived in the splendid Village of East Hampton. This month that we will spend with our friends truly marks the beginning of summer and our turn to relax. I am sure that Charles and I both will have a new perspective on this charming seaside town as we take it in through the eyes of our young daughter. While we have no set plans for the foreseeable future, the 4th of July celebration is in just a few days and we will celebrate with a clam bake on the beach at sunset while awaiting the firework extravaganza. Trips into town are also a must, as Edith and I always love to venture into the little antiques shops and markets. Tomorrow, though, will be a day for discovery on the beach and letting the kids play to their hearts content.
